Ugh...

Tue Jun 9, 2009, 6:31 PM
Just in case you're wondering where the last E3 comic is and where I've been for the last few days... Friday night, I came home sick and proceeded to vomit several times after dinner. Vomitted again the next day and I stayed home and napped the rest of the day away. Sunday, I tried to go into work and ended up coming home after about an hour due to extreme exhaustion and pain in my joints and muscles so I went home and slept some more.

Of course, by this point, I believe my stomach to be back to normal and I seem to back to full strength now but even so... I'm still taking tonight off so I'll probably start drawing the last E3 comic tomorrow.

In the meantime, I've become obsessed with Retro Game Challenge for the DS and in turn with the show it's based on, Game Center CX. If you've never heard of it, Game Center CX is an awesomely addictive little reality show in which this guy name Arino Shinya is made to play games. Mainly Famicom games. Sometimes, he'll play other consoles but mainly, it's all about the Famicom. He plays games you've probably never heard of and he also plays one you know like the back of your hand. Sometimes he has strategy guides, sometimes the Assistant Director has to step in and help, sometimes he might have a special guest aid him. And in addition to the gameplay, the show also has other segments that involve industry interviews, visits to arcades around Japan, and viewing game collections. Once you've downed a couple episodes, it's almost impossible to go back! And game based on it isn't half bad either! You play through a small collection of fake Famicom games that are loosely based on various real titles of the era and even contain in game references to events from the TV show as well. It's an absolutely fun package and everyone should go out and buy plenty of copies so XSeed will find it in their hearts localize the sequel! ^^

Sadly, I've now watched all the episodes available on YouTube and there doesn't appear to be more online... ;_; Of course, the net effect of this is that now I WANT to get back into working my game backlog and have already completed my first "Retro Game Challenge"! XD According to Wikipeadia, the oldest NES game I own in any form is Clu Clu Land, which I have in Animal Crossing GC. I've never made it past Stage 5 in that game and with a little research, I learned that it is actually the last stage in the game, not counting the bonus stage. Well, it took three hours, but I DID it! XD I made it past the bonus stage and forced the game to loop around back to stage 1! ^^ So, Clu Clu Land is now officially conquered in my book! XD What's next...? Don't ask... ^^;

Anyway, that's everything going on right now.

If you're playing The Goonies II, I suggest you set around 4 to 5 hours aside to do it in one sitting. It makes the warping doors a bit easier to navigate when it's fresh in your mind. Otherwise, do consult a FAQ at times. There are about one or two moments in the game where you can be at the absolute right place but you'll assume you're wrong when the solution isn't really obvious. May as well save you a few hours of pain right there!

Loved the hell out of that game, really. It's so painful yet so good when you've got it under control!

I didn't say Goonies II... I said... Goonies. ;)

In anycase, I don't need a FAQ for Goonies II, I have a very accurate home made map that shows EVERYTHING! XD
