It's been a long, LONG time since I've taken a stab at drawing the Dirty Pair. The last time was waaaaaaaay back when ADV was putting out the Flash and Original OAVs on VHS and I even got PAID to draw a couple of DP pictures! ^^ But that was a long time ago and I really haven't had any reasons to draw Kei and Yuri in all this time. Then I got "The Adventures of the Dirty Pair", the original novel that started the franchise for Christmas and BOOM! I want to draw the Dirty Pair again! ^^
This was inspired by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's illustrations that litter the book though not based on his designs for the girls. My favorite version has always been the 80s version and that's what I used for the picture, though I DID dress them in the costumes from the novel. Also, the design of Yuri's seat is also lifted from the book though Kei's is all mine. XD The rest is an "extrapolation" of what the rest of the Lovely Angel's bridge looks like (read: blind guess).
Anyway, this is based on the opening scene in the book where Kei attempts to charm an air flight controller only to have him flip out when she reveals her ship's name. "Di-DIRTY PAIR!!!" Her we see Kei's less than appreciative reaction to the controller's suprise, shock, and fear. And Yuri laughs her head off at Kei! XD
This started out as and was meant to be a quick little number but it ended up taking me two nights to do. You can blame Kei's hair for that. Even with all the skill I've gained since the last time I did a DP picture, the mystery of her hair still continues to elude me. -_-;;; Oh, well.
